Investigating value chain resilience in North Canterbury, New Zealand

The Resilience to Nature’s Challenges is one of the most ambitious initiatives undertaken by New Zealand to develop and apply new scientific solutions to transform our response, recovery and “bounce-back” from our wide diversity of natural hazards. Our team in Scion is going to explore the supply chains in North Canterbury to understand the risks and vulnerabilities and provide proper risk mitigation strategy. The responding owners will get a supply chain map immediately after the interview. The map helps to understand who they rely on the most among their suppliers and clients, and how the company is affected if a partner cannot provide the same level of service or goods, and ensures transparency up and downstream in the supply chain. Finally, the region and New Zealand will benefit from the research, and the method potentially will be used to identify all the linkages in NZ’s economy and allow us to define the most effective risk mitigation strategy.

This video provides a brief introduction to the Resilience to Nature’s Challenges Rural Laboratory research project entitled "Investigating value chain resilience in North Canterbury, New Zealand". It contains brief interviews with Dr. Robert Radics, Dr. Carel Bezuidenhout, Gini Christians of Scion Research, and Ben Scott of Scott Fresh.
